Following the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse fire on December 3, 1999, the Office of the City Manager in Worcester initiated “Project Remember” in memory of the six firefighters who lost their lives battling the fire. As part of “Project Remember,” six non-profits in Worcester were asked to complete an affordable housing project. Matthew 25 was honored to participate in this initiative, starting work on this house in 2001 with the help of Worcester Technical High School and many volunteers from local colleges. Renovations were completed in 2005 and the Board of Directors unanimously voted to name the residence “Firefighter House.” The colors of the patch worn by Worcester firefighters are represented in the yellow, green, red, and blue paint colors on the exterior of the house.
